Key Tax Deadlines in December 2025

This month’s financial guidance focuses on essential tax deadlines, including strategic year-end planning, employee tip reporting, IRA withdrawals, and finalizing deductible payments for 2025.

December 1 - Initiate Year-End Tax Strategies

December marks the completion of tax-related actions that can significantly impact your 2025 tax outcome. Individuals anticipating significant shifts in income, changes in marital status, or those involved in property transactions in 2025 should arrange a tax strategy appointment without delay.

December 10 - Deadline to Report Employee Tips

If you earned over $20 in gratuities in November, it’s imperative to report this income on IRS Form 4070 by December 10. Employers are responsible for withholding FICA and income taxes on these tips from your wages. Should your regular income not suffice for withholding, the shortfall will appear in Box 8 of your W-2, requiring settlement with your annual tax return.

December 31 - Last Chance for Mandatory IRA Withdrawals

Those born before January 1, 1952, must make necessary withdrawals from Traditional IRAs by this last day to avoid penalties. If you turned 73 in 2025, the initial required distribution applies unless deferred until April 1, 2026. Plan withdrawals in advance if your financial institution closes on December 31.

December 31 - Final Day to Settle Deductible Expenses

This represents the cutoff to finalize deductible expenditures applicable to your 2025 tax return. Note that IRA, SEP, or Keogh contributions remain payable post-December 31, 2025.

Caution: End of Year Constraints

If required actions exceed the capacity for completion on December 31, initiate proceedings earlier to avoid closure conflicts with financial institutions.
